I awoke this morning to the sound of a helicopter hovering about a mile away. It being October I knew what it probably meant. It’s the hovering that gives it away. Most helicopter traffic in this area is just fly through. It’s almost an annual ritual. Law enforcement goes after marijuana (weed) growers just when their crop is about to be harvested. Later that same day I went out to run an errand and saw sheriff vehicles in unusual abundance driving around. A friend told me of a gathering of many sheriff’s at our local community center, the Alcouffe center. So while visiting a client whose home had just closed escrow today I drove by the Alcouffe center and saw this.(see photo) Workers and a tractor by large piles of weed. I could smell it from the road. I heard another helicopter in the background. I saw a SWAT Vehicle and even an armored vehicle at the Alcouffe center. There were Sheriff vehicles from not only Yuba county but also Nevada and Butte counties and a lot of them. Of course there was no advance notice of this operation but it was a large operation. It went on all day till 5pm. Once I got to my clients house who had just closed escrow today, they told me of numerous helicopters ferrying large bundles of weed across the sky over their new home and sheriff vehicles driving up and down their road all day with trailers bouncing on the rough gravel road. It seems the shooting of two sheriff deputies by a crazed ex-con who was a weed worker a couple of months ago, has had a definite effect on the enforcement activities of our county in regards to illegal outdoor growing! News flash! Here’s an update copied from the Yuba County sheriff posting:
